Yesterday, I found this offer on Boston’s Groupon:
For $89, you get to cruise around in some Ferrari for an hour. I had never seen anything like this, but I suppose it’s not far off from owning a boat or plane and chartering it. So I got to thinking about how good of a business decision buying a Ferarri 360 Modena actually is.
Let’s begin with the car. From The Motorsport Lab’s website:
Ferrari 360 Details:
- Price: $225,000
- Engine Type: 3.6 Liter V8
- Torque: 275lb-ft@4750rpm
- Acceleration 0-60: 4.5s
- Horsepower: 395bhp@8500rpm
- Top Speed: 189 mph
- Transmission: F1 Paddle Shift
At a sticker price of $225,000, it’s not exactly a small investment. But right now it says that 2,783 Groupons have been sold at $89 a piece, for a grand total of $247,687. I am sure that Groupon takes a cut, and there are other considerations like insurance and taxes. But a quarter million in one 2-day sale is pretty awesome. Add in the exposure, and the fact that they normally bill out at $499 an hour, it doesn’t take much of a stretch of the imagination to say that Motorsport Lab is probably doing OK with that purchase.
Anyone want to spot me $250,000?

I’m all for wishing your Dad a happy Fathers’ Day, but this seems a bit much.
